Beyond Containment and Responsibility Shifting? Governing Asylum in the EU
The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum lays down the basis of the overarching Union policy dealing with migration and asylum. This Session will examine the key achievements and changes introduced by the Pact during this last legislature. To what extent can the Pact be expected to move beyond a policy centered on the containment of asylum seekers, and prevent responsibility shifting among EU Member States and towards third countries regarding asylum? How can the EU ensure consistency between EU external cooperation on migration and asylum and EU Treaty values as well as international standards such as those laid down in the UN Global Compacts on Refugees and Migration?
This Session also provided the opportunity to Prof. Sergio Carrera to present the final results of the ASILE project.
